We’ve all woken up to sad Sunday news about Matthew Perry. Every time I need a pick-me-up, I turn on Friends. Matthew has always, albeit only through the TV screen, been here to cheer me on. I read his book within hours when it came out, exactly one year ago to this day. We all have our demons and we all cope with them the best we can - and God knows he tried.
It indeed feels like we all lost a friend.
🤔 CURRENT THOUGHTS: While on the topic of losing friends - when do you know it is actually time to let go? Let go of friendships that might not make sense anymore?
Some friendships last forever. Or at least I’d like to think they do. I have friends that I don’t see nearly as often as I’d want to - but when I do, it’s like we have never lost touch. And then there are some friendships that fade with time. Something might not feel right anymore. People change. Friendships change and, unfortunately, often also have an expiry date.
There is nothing wrong with closing the door. Sometimes that person can’t help you grow anymore. Maybe they are holding you in place while you want to move forward. And it’s not their fault either, you just went different ways. And that’s okay. Does it still hurt? Very much so.
📚 READ: Disgrace by Jussi Adler Olsen.
Surprise! I am continuing the saga. The second book about the famous Department Q has felt even more thrilling and had me on edge, trying to figure out who might the killer be. 10/10
Department Q solves the unsolvable.
So when a file on the brutal murder of a brother and sister 20 years ago lands on the desk of Detective Carl Mørck, he doesn't understand why.
Because the killer has already been found, and the case is closed.
Why has it turned up on Carl's desk?
And more importantly, who put it there?
🎵 LISTEN: Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic, and “In Utero” producer Steve Albini in Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend
While not being the biggest fan of Conan’s, this is a brilliant episode offering insights on Nirvana. It took me back to my teenage years and it was absolutely lovely to listen to.
📈 THIS WEEK’S HIGH: My friend got married! We were lucky to be invited to a very intimate wedding of a friend I made here in Copenhagen and cherish immensely. I know it’s always a cliché to say that someone was made for each other but these two certainly were. I’m absolutely looking forward to following their journey through life!
Also loving this period of life. As much as I was dreading it to come, I love seeing my friends getting married and starting their families. Life is not just a party anymore - it’s so much better.
I’m turning 30 in two months. Might have felt scary before but now - please bring it on!
📉 THIS WEEK’S LOW: The beginning of this newsletter kinda explained it. Losing friends both in the figurative and the literal way always hurts but it’s inevitable.
Thank you for reading! We are moving into the cold and rainy months but also the Christmas atmosphere is almost here and I’m living for it!
